When we arrived at Kentucky
Mountain Bible College the campus was ablaze with color and the
weather alternated between pleasant and crisp. When we left after
three weeks it was another story. Click the picture to see.
|
The college is building a new
chapel and apartments with all volunteer labor. The MMAP men
worked on the outside of the foundation. The first job was
spreading tar over the outside of block walls. Bill Reed and
Harold Leiting did most of the work.
|
After
that they installed a
French drain, covered the walls with plastic and then with 4-inch
Styrofoam.
|
Next they had to fill the trench
around the building with gravel. Jim built a chute, Ken
manned the loader and with some heavy coaxing from Bill and Harold,
they
got the gravel where it needed to be..
|
The
women took turns working in the kitchen. Here Shirley Leiting
decorates the cookies which she and I made from scratch.
Let's see what's 2 1/2 times one and three-quarters
tablespoons?

Charlie Spencer borrowed a van
from the college and took us to see the wild horses. These
were not the animals of Man
from Snowy River. These were
horses people no longer wanted, and turned loose. Apparently
they are protected. This one mistook the camera was a
carrot.

About
the middle of the project it turned cold and rainy and the men started
working inside. They fixed up an apartment in the basement of
one of the houses on campus. It was in quite bad shape when
they started, but looked like new when they finished.
Between
these four couples we had completed more than 300 MMAP
projects. |
Below
is an interactive map which not only shows
where we’ve been, but also pictures of the various stops.
First click View Larger Map
(below) and then click on the placemarks to see more
information, usually a
picture. Occasionally, when the stop merits it, there will
also be a link to a web album (camera placemarks). Use the back
arrow at the top of your browser to return here. Hope
you enjoy it.
We love hearing your comments.
