I returned from Christmas in
Minnesota on January 5 and two days later we were on our way to
Pasadena with a stop at Newman, CA to have dinner with some of the
children and grandchildren.

|
We were in the third lane from
the right, pulling the trailer down The Grapevine, when the motor quit
40 miles from the project.
There must have been angels around us because we coasted through two
lanes of heavy traffic to the shoulder of I-5. Click on the
picture to hear the rest of our sad story and a wonderful MMAP rescue.

We haven't done a MMAP
project since May and is it ever
good to be back !! We are working at the US Center for
World Missions in Pasadena, a
remarkable place which serves as headquarters for a number of
missionary
organizations. I learn more about this place every time we work here
and am continually amazed at all that’s accomplished for missions. The
MMAP men
redecorated several rooms in Alyard House. At left Jim and Les Stahley
help remove old paint and wallpaper.

The women worked in the library,
the boutique and for China Ministries. Pictured here is Jo Meline
cutting out stamps at the China Ministry Office.

One
Saturday all the MMAPers went to the Santa Anita Race Track to have
breakfast at Clockers Corner. The food is served at tables with white
tablecloths in the grandstand. During breakfast we watched
the horses at their morning workout. Later we had a guided
tour of
the stables,
saddling area etc. and learned a bit about the history of the
track.
|
Jim and I went back after the
tour and watched them saddle the horses and then took in a race. It was
very interesting. I was amazed at the small size of the
saddle.
There's more leather in a billfold! |

The
ladies enjoyed a couple of Ladies Days Out. We toured the Pasadena
Museum of
History one week and went to the City College Beauty School another
week.

We were invited to a MMAP
get-together inYucapia It was for all the MMAPers, active and retired,
that are in the area. It was fun, but it snowed while we were
there. The potluck was held in the clubhouse of a park where several
MMAPers are now living. About 40 came.
